UNC School of the Arts: Symphony Orchestra

  • Centenary United Methodist Church 646 West 5th Street Winston-Salem, NC, 27101 United States (map)

One of the best-known works in the orchestral repertoire, Mussorgsky's "Pictures at an Exhibition," arranged by Ravel, is a musical tribute to the memory of Mussorgsky’s friend, Viktor Hartmann, an artist. Hartmann’s works provided Mussorgsky with a wide array of inspirations. Full of character, color and expression, Ravel’s orchestral arrangement of Mussorsgky’s original piano work shows off the prowess of the entire orchestra. The concert will also feature a world premiere by faculty composer Lawrence Dillon.
